My take on the product :

I love Bourjois’s eye liner range- they have a HUGE range of colors in so many finishes- matte, pearl, duochrome, wet glossy in pencils as well as liquid liners. Bourjois is the king of eye pencil collections!

I was already using the eye kohls from Bourjois (Kohl and contour pencil Brun expressif reviewed HERE) and visited the counter looking for a bronze eye pencil. I had seen (a British makeup artist with amazing videos!) use a Bourjois bronze pencil for a certain look and even though I didn’t expect to find the same thing there, I nevertheless went looking for it.

I love duochrome shades- in eye shadows as well as eye liners and this is one of the must-have duochromes for every eye pencil lover.

The pencil comes in a very attractive duochrome wooden pencil form with a transparent cap. The pencil is easy to sharpen and the packaging is quite attractive and colorful. Its easy to use, hygienic and travel-friendly as well.

The texture of the pencil is soft and it glides easily on the lid without any tugging. It can be smudged easily and blended with other shades as well. These pencils, just like the Bourjois kohl and contour are not smudge-proof and smudge if you rub your finger across it. But I find that they stay on my lids, lower lash line for a long time without smudging or creating an unsightly mess around my eyes. After a full day of wear, I find them faded but never messy or smudged. They are soft enough to be used as eye shadow all over lid and generally stay on for 5-6 hours after which they crease a bit (without primer).

The advantage of this kind of formula is that it is waterline safe as opposed to pencils that set to a smudge proof finish few seconds after application. Smudge proof pencils can’t be used all over lid (they stretch out the delicate skin when they set and feel very uncomfortable) but this kind of formula can be used all over lid without experiencing any discomfort.

The shade 62 Brun Mordore –

Its a bronze-brown shade containing fine gold shimmer. The shimmer is very fine and evenly distributed, does not irritate my eyes or feel uncomfortable on my waterline as well. The shade looks beautiful on warm skin tones but the only con is that it doesn’t show up easily on pigmented lids. I have pigmented lids and this blends in with my skin tone so well that I have to use it all over the lid for it to be visible. But after using a concealer, this shows up well. I prefer wearing it on my lower lash line (where it shows up better) or all over the lid as eye shadow with kohl on waterline. It looks great paired with a warm lip color-especially if you’re going for a bright lip.

It is one of those shades that add a bit of glamour to the eyes are yet are subtle enough to be worn to work.

Highly recommended with fair/medium skin tones. Might not show up well on duskier skin tones.

Overall Verdict

Its a gorgeous bronze brown duochrome eye pencil encased in an attractive colorful wooden pencil form. The texture is smooth and the pencil can be applied as liner, kohl and eye shadow as well without causing any irritation to the eyes. The formula is not completely waterproof or smudge proof but it lasts on me with negligible smudging almost the entire day (Except when worn as eye shadow). The shade looks beautiful on fair/medium skin tones but doesn’t show up well in pigmented lids/duskier skin tones without a concealer. It is one of my personal favorites and I love pairing it with a brighter warm lip.

Do check that the shade shows up on your lids before purchasing.

Rating : 3.8/5

Will I repurchase: Yes.

  1. I have this & i luv it to bits.. its the 1st eye pencil i got frm Bourjois alongwith 2 Kohl & contour and I want to collect the other shades available too.. its a luvly golden brown.. gr8 review ankita..

    1. Thanks Nids 🙂 Its a lovely shade! I picked up another one – grayed lavender shade, will review it soon 🙂 The range also has a very pretty parrot green/gold duochrome shade.

  2. I love when you can tell the effect a product will have on your skin just from looking at the product itself (in this case the close up of the pencil.)

I’m not sure it would show up on my skintone (i’m just a tad bit tanner than you right now) but it’s sooooooo lovely.

  3. The casing looks soo pretty, pity it doesnt show up as a liner…but all over your lid, I love the effect, very fresh! 🙂

    1. Ya it barely shows up as liner but I do love using it on my lower lash line..gives such a natural effect. And all over the lid too! 😛

  4. the packaging itself makes u feel to own this. I am surely going to buy this. the violet rose and green one too seem to be good ones

    1. I’m eyeing the green one too! I think the Violet rose also wud have problems of not showing up on our skin tones. I have another shade in this- Gris Perle..a lavender grey shade- I face the same problem with it.

        1. That it does 🙂 I find these pencils look so great on the lower lash line. Pair with the same darker shade on upper lash line. I wear Gris Perle with Avon glimmerstick liqui-glide in Plum and it looked lovely!

    1. It does brighten up the area without looking too shimmery 🙂 I hope u like it..though be careful, these are not completely waterproof/smudge proof so if u hv watery eyes, they won’t stay!
