What Lakme says about the Eyeconic Kajal & Mascara :

Indian women are blessed with gorgeous deep set eyes and to help highlight this feature, Lakmé has launched Lakmé Eyeconic – a revolutionary range consisting of kajal and mascara. The new Eyeconic Kajal by Lakmé is literally iconic as all you need is one sweep of kajal and it lasts for 10 hours. The product is waterproof, it doesn’t smudge and it is even safe for the eyes since it is dermatologist tested. Complete your look with lots of Eyeconic Curling Mascara. The mascara gives the eyes an intense black finish and comes equipped with a curling brush that helps give curves to your lashes. It is also enriched with D-Panthenol – a moisturizer which keeps lashes soft and smooth. The product makes the eyes look brighter and adds a perfect sparkle to your entire look.

The Eyeconic kajal and mascara by Lakmé forms the perfect combination in creating a look that is sure to get you noticed!  You can now transform your look from drab to fab with just a little kajal and a hint of some mascara.

My take on the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal

The Lakme Eyeconic Kajal comes in sleek black twist up liner form with hints of turquoise in the packaging which gives it an attractive look! The advantage of the twist up packaging is that there is not wastage due to sharpening of the pencil but the downside is that you might not be able to get thin/sharp lines.

The kajal is smooth and creamy, it glides easily on the waterline with no tugging. It is well pigmented and deep black but I won’t call it the darkest black I’ve come across (Lakme Absolute Ultimate Kohl). It dries to a matte finish few seconds after application but not before one has the chance to smudge/soften it. I was not expecting very long wear with this. Kohls rarely stay on my waterline beyond 4 hours but I was pleasantly surprised by the long lasting power of the Eyeconic Kajal. I wore it for the full 10 hours it is claimed to last and it actually did last that long! Apart from the bit of fading from the outer and inner corners, the kohl was intact on my waterline which I think is absolutely brilliant for a kohl at this price. It does not bleed into the lower lash line nor does it smudge.

I felt no irritation in my eyes while testing this. I wear lenses and I found this completely safe and comfortable on my eyes. I also wore this as a liner on my upper lash line and it stayed intact till I removed it at the end of the day. It transferred a little bit to the socket line after 6-7 hours of wear but that was hardly visible unless you looked really close up. It comes off fairly easily with any cream/oil based remover. Overall, I think its a fabulous product! The only con I can think of, if I’m really being picky, would be that its not the darkest black I’ve come across.

My take on the Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara

The Lakme Eyeconic Mascara comes in an asymmetrically shaped tube packaging with a curved wand. The bristles are closely arranged on the wand and the wand is fairly thin which makes it easier to reach the inner lashes and lower lashes. Similar to the Kajal, the packaging has the word Eyeconic written across in turquoise which gives a lively touch to the black packaging.

The mascara is neither too runny nor too thick, it doesn’t take long to dry and is waterresistant. The wand doesn’t pick up too much product but I still find that it clumps my lashes a little bit if I do more than 1 coat. I find that I need to dip back into the tube to get more product for the tips of my lashes if I want a heavier look. The curved wand does make it a little but easier to reach all lashes but I feel perfectly comfortable with the regular wands too.  The curve it not sufficient to fit my eye shape exactly but with so many different eye shapes, its difficult to create one wand that fits all! As far the effect goes, it does give some curl, quite a bit of length and but no volume. It definitely opens up the eyes and gives a neat, even look (clumping aside). I think the effect is good enough for daily wear but I won’t reach out for it if I’m doing a more dressy look. It comes off fairly easily with any eye makeup remover – I alternate between the Maybelline one and the Clarins one and both work well.

Overall, I like the mascara but its not as great as the Kajal. It may be my personal preference for Volumizing Mascaras stepping in here but I don’t like the fact that it clumps a bit if do more than 1 cat. The one thing I like this mascara for is the lower lash line, the thin curved wand is very convenient and I can easily apply it without getting the product on the skin. Would recommend it to those who like mascaras with a subtle effect or for daily wear.

 Overall Verdict

Lakme Eyeconic Kajal : Smooth, creamy, well pigmented, not the darkest black around but lives up to its claims. Smudge-proof, waterproof, stays put on the waterline for nearly 10 hours and comes off easily with remover. Rating : 4.75/5

Lakme Eyeconic Mascara : Curved thin wand that gives some curl and length, dries fast and is water-resistant but clumps a bit. Decent enough for daily wear but I prefer more dramatic mascaras. Love it for the lower lashes. Rating : 4/5

  1. I haven’t really picked up anything from eyeconic range… the kajal isnt jet black, and the mascara isnt volumising…. i can’t do without both these effects!
    nice, detailed post:)

      1. hii..i use lakme absolute and as my skin is not fair..(little dark wheat) soo i cant do without dark jet black kajal..

  2. i got the clinique mascara in my sept vellvette box and i am absolutely digging it. i have given a break to my loreal volume million lashes also. i am giving this mascara a pass but i do wanna try their kajal. i have been a devotee of the colossal kajal for a long time now bt i am still tempted to try this out only cz this doesnt smudge at all!!
thanks for the lovely review ankita.

PS: the mascara lengthens the lashes really well. looks awesome on u.

    1. Thanks Niesha, its not actually grey though! The eye shadows I used are too sheer and I patted them over kohl as base, the end result looks very grey!

  3. omg! the kajal stayes for that long?? i think it is perfect for me. i anyways dont like deepest black. it looks very harsh. also, i think the retractable feature is a , coz we dont need a sharp tip for waterline. blunt is gentle. also, sharpening creates a little mess.

ankita, purely on the basis of wear time, which lasts longer? absolute kohl or eyeconic?

  4. I have used the mascara and I like it …as its good to groom my absolutely dense and long lashes..have to try the kajal…! all are telling its better than colossal…wht do you feel?

    1. It is definitely better than Colossal Kajal, stays on much better! Colossal stings my eyes and doesn’t last more than 3-4 hours on the waterline.

  5. Hi Ankita! Again, great post. I am a fan of your blog 🙂
I had a random question..do eyelash curlers really work? Not the ones with heat..just the basic ones with the rubber pad..I have been contemplating buying one myself but am not very convinced..

    1. Yes they certainly do! I’d recommend you buy a decent one (not a very inexpensive one like Vega) otherwise you might start losing your lashes. I experimented with the Vega one and it wasn’t good for my lashes. The Body Shop and Inglot are good options.

  6. Oh My God! I have been waiting for this review for sooo long. Your eyes look SO good.. This is THE look!

Plz share what all you have applied on your eyes! If you already have a swatch on this look… please share the link. 🙂

      1. Thanks for sharing… 🙂 Is there any other eyeshadow pack I could substitute to get the same look, considering that this did not get great reviews from you, and is scarcely available?

  7. loved your look. i recently purchased the eyeconic kajal, it’s really smooth, though i don’t find it smudge free, long lasting & intense black. is my process of applying it on my eyes wrong?

    1. Hi Angela, products wear differently on different people. Eyeconic wears reasonably well on me though the best is Lakme Absolute Ultimate Kohl, you could give that a try.

  8. Nice review Ankita, I read your reviews about the Lakme Absolute kohl as well. Since you have tried both , which would you say is a better deal? considering the color and staying power…

  9. hi ankita! your reviews are awesome!! very informative! I want to buy a mascara for occasional wear. i’m considering AVON supershock mascara waterproof, lakme eyeconic mascara and open to any other brand/product you can suggest. As I wear it only occasionally and mascaras can’t be used for more than 4 months, price is also a consideration. can you please suggest which one I should prefer? Also, in mascaras, is waterproof or washable(as it can be washed off easily) better?

    1. Waterproof/washable is a personal preference. Also depends on your location. If you’re somewhere hot and humid like Mumbai, I’d recommend using waterproof! Avon Super shock is good. As is Maybelline Colossal Volume!

  10. my lashes r not much long nd denser these r very which mascara i should use for better results that can also nourishes my eye lashes and increase its volume and length.
