Today I’m reviewing the most beautiful highlighter I’ve ever used – Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in shade Bronze! Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks are one of the most popular products from the brand.
Price : Rs 2450 for 10.3 g
My take on the Product
It comes in a shiny plastic black compact with the Bobbi Brown insignia on the cover. I love the glossy black Bobbi Brown packaging – so classy and luxurious! The compact contains 5 strips of shimmering color and a large mirror on the underside of the lid. Only downside is that its quite large!
The shimmer brick contains 5 colors – a pale gold, a champagne pink, a warm bronze, a rose gold and a deep coppery bronze. It is quite smooth in texture and is closer to baked/mineralize products in texture than pressed powder. The texture isn’t powdery but a few stray shimmer flecks do make their way to the edges of the pan. Because its fairly pigmented and quite shimmery, a soft fluffy brush is the best thing to use. If you use a very densely packed brush, you’d end up with too much product on the cheeks. If you’re using this on the eyes, you can go with a dense brush to get maximum color.
The shimmer brick is quite versatile – you can use it as eye shadow, bronzer or highlighter. I mostly end up using this as a highlighter on my browbone and cheekbones using only the top 2 shades. The top 2 strips of the lightest color have slightly more understated shimmer than the bottom 3. And for that reason it doesn’t draw attention to the open pores on my cheeks. If you want to use this as a bronzer, you can use the darker 3 shades or swirl the brush through all the 5 shades. But if you have large open pores/oily skin like me, a matte or satin finish bronzer is more flattering than a shimmery one like this. Its too shimmery to be used all over the face so I wouldn’t recommend you do that, especially if you’re going to be photographed.
The 5 shades in the compact can be used individually for the eyes if you’re using an eye-shadow brush but it would be difficult to pick up just a single color for application on the cheeks if you’re using regular face brushes. I use a small face brush to pick up the 2 lighter shades to highlight.
Because this compact has all warm shades, it works beautifully with the Indian complexion and gives a lovely natural soft golden glow to the skin. I love using this and have been using it exclusively ever since I got this in June. If you’ve been following me on Youtube, you would have seen me use this in every tutorial in past weeks!
As far as wear time goes, it stays very well on the cheeks for 7-8 hours with hardly any fading. I don’t use it a lot on the eyes because it feels much sheerer and softer on the eyes than regular eye shadows and tends to fade faster. However it does give a beautiful sheen to the eye lids and if want a my-lids-but-better kind of a look without obvious eye shadow, this is a lovely product.
Overall, this is a technically a multi-tasking product but being quite high on shimmer, I find it is more flattering as highlighter and for a golden-bronzy sheen on the lids. You might be able to use it a bronzer too all over the cheeks – it does look pretty and the colors are just right for a golden glow, but the shimmer can draw attention to pores and imperfections.
Used all over the cheeks as a blush/bronzer, also used on the neck and decolletage ~
Used only along cheekbones as highlighter ~
The GOOD about Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact Bronze :
- Beautiful packaging – comes with a large mirror
- Can be used as highlighter, eye shadow, blush, bronzer
- Soft, smooth texture
- Good pigmentation
- Stays on well
- Lighter strips don’t enhance pores
- Contains 5 gorgeous shades – can be used individually
- Gives a beautiful glow to the skin
The NOT-SO-GOOD about Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact Bronze :
- Darker shades are very shimmery – it highlights pores if used as blush/bronzer
- Shimmer flecks scatter around the edges of the pan
Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in shade Bronze is a gorgeous palette of 5 neutral neutral bronzy gold shades. It is quite shimmery so my preferred way of using it is along the cheekbones as a face highlighter. It doubles up quite well as eye shadow and blush/bronzer though you might want to be a little careful if you have large open pores. Being quite shimmery, it can enhance imperfections a tad if used all over the cheeks. Nevertheless, I love how the soft gold color compliments my complexion and this is without a doubt one of the best highlighters I’ve used! Recommended!
