The Bourjois Twist up the Volume mascara comes with a brush that can be twisted to make it denser. The wand is neither too slim, nor too thick. The bristles are plastic and quite short. In step 1, the bristles are less densely packed and hence the overall result is less dramatic, just defined long lashes. In step 2, i.e when you twist the knob on the top anticlockwise, the wand transforms into one with denser bristles arranged in a helical pattern (like a screw). The wand #2 gives more dramatic lashes – a very wearable volume though. I like the overall formula of this mascara – its slightly on the wetter side but dries down quickly. I find that a wetter formula is a little easier to layer without getting clumps.

The relaxed lengthening wand just adds definition – which is great if you want something subtle for daytime or work. I prefer the twisted version – the denser wand, because it adds more volume to the lashes. In both states, the wand doesn’t pick up too much product so it doesn’t give clumps. Its a waterproof mascara but if you rub your lashes with moist fingers, it might flake a little bit. But it doesn’t smudge or melt down with sweat/tears/oil etc. Overall I like this mascara though I don’t always use the dual function, I just go in with 2 coats of the volumizing bit.  Women who like subtle lashes for day and more volume for the evening might find this feature useful.

I wish the packaging was a little fancier. Bourjois has some really beautifully packaged products and I think this one falls a bit short in that aspect. I didn’t find this mascara extra-ordinary but its good. I have 3 mascaras at the moment and I tend to reach out for this one the most!

The GOOD about Bourjois Twist Up the Volume Mascara :

  1. Contains a dual purpose brush – for subtle length and dramatic volume
  2. Wand doesn’t pick up too much product
  3. Doesn’t give clumps
  4. Waterproof
  5. Can be layered without clumps to amplify the drama
  6. Wearable volume – doesn’t coat lashes with too much product
  7. Coats lashes very evenly
  8. Doesn’t flake off unless you rub it with moist fingers
  9. Easy to remove with an eye makeup remover

The NOT-SO-GOOD about Bourjois Twist Up the Volume Mascara :

  1. Doesn’t give a very dramatic effect
  2. Packaging could have been more attractive

Overall Verdict

Bourjois Twist Up the Volume Mascara is a fairly good mascara that has a dual purpose wand – for subtle length + defined volume. The twist up concept is smart though I wish the packaging was snazzier. It has a slightly wet formula that enables it to be layered without clumping or flaking and it is fairly waterproof for everyday use. It gives a decent (though not extraordinary) volume when the wand is used in the twisted state and I find myself reaching for this often. Its easy to remove as well with an eye makeup remover. I’d recommend it to women who would actually use the dual wand – the subtle definition for work maybe and more volume for parties/evening.

Rating : 4/5

Nice review. Colorbar Zoom and Whoosh mascara is also one similar product like this.
It is Rs.650 for 9 ml…i guess. Not sure of which is better.
