Currently Loving : Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder

The past one month was such a whirlwind of activity that makeup took a backseat for the most part! I first had to pack up my Mumbai place, shift to Bhopal (parent’s place) for a week then shift to the hotel for the wedding followed by the move to Tokyo. I had a small makeup kit in my purse which I used till the unpacking was done after coming to Tokyo and the Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer was the only cheek product I had in there. I’ve never been big on bronzers (except matte ones for contouring) but I’m a convert after using this one!

Guerlain is known for its powders and bronzers and I picked this up from the Sale event that Guerlain had hosted for readers some time back. I don’t remember the actual price but I think I got it for under Rs 1500 after discount. The shade I have is 02 Brunettes which is perfect for my complexion.

The packaging is beautiful – the outside casing has 2 intertwined Gs and the powder itself is a mosaic of 5 shades including a golden bronze. Swirling them together, I get a beautiful peachy bronze shade that gives the perfect sunkissed glow to my skin. The powder is soft in texture, finely milled and sheer so its easy to build up. The golden particles are fine and not too densely distributed- they just add an iridescent glow to the skin. The powder blends into the skin seamlessly and overall just adds beautiful glowing warmth to the skin. I’ve been using this lately every time I put on makeup and it stays put for a long time (6+ hours).

I apply it in the classic 3 shape (temples, cheekbones, jawline) to get a warmed, slightly tanned look. Even though bronzers are classically considered to be summer products, I love using this in the winter to add some warmth to my skin. I tend to get a little paler in the cold here in Tokyo and using a light veil of this on my cheekbones adds some life and warmth to my complexion. The powder also has a mild fragrance that you can read about on the Guerlain website HERE.

Overall, its a beautiful product to own and something one can use everyday! Its a luxury buy but if you’re in the mood for some indulgence, do check Guerlain’s collection of powders and bronzers. I love this powder and the only downside for me is that it doesn’t come with an accompanying brush! (though the lack of a brush makes the packaging quite slim and compact!).

    1. Its meant for bronzing not contouring. Since it has a little shimmer, it would not be suitable for contouring for paler skin tones as well. Matte bronzers can double up as contouring products but not ones with shimmer!

      1. oopsie! Thank u so much for the info. I’ve always been confused about that as I’ve heard some YT gurus say that bronzers if used correctly can be used for contouring as well. Glad u corrected me and I learnt something new. You’re a darling <3

        1. Yes you can use matte bronzers for contouring too 🙂 Bronzing and contouring differs in the area of application but bronzers can be used to contour!

  1. Oh wow this looks so lovely both inside and outside. pretty packaging..looks royal. Iv been looking for a bronzer for ages..Lakme Moonlight did not do it for me…this one looks and sounds convincing 🙂

  2. Congrts mrs ankita….. Wts the lucky mans name??. Have u tried hakuhodo brushes?? Hw was guerlaon sale n wt else did u haul frm there

  3. The shade is gorgeous but I would have never thought that it could be used as a bronzer! 🙂 well reviewed and congrats on your marriage 🙂 I hope you’re having a lovely time in Tokyo!

  4. Although I am not that much into bronzing , but this looks so cute .. The shimmery part can be doubled up as a highlighter for my skin tone 😛

  5. Nice review I have a question bronzer shade should be picked according to one’s skin stone. What is your shade of foundation in MAC or NARS or Chanel ?

    1. Little more diffused application – you cover the apples of the cheeks as well as the cheekbones lightly as that is where you naturally get a tan if you've been in the sun.

  6. The bronzer looks so nice in the pan .. Pressed bronzers are easy to handle… There is always a fear with bronzing pearls they easily fall out from the tub & create a mess on table & get exposed to dirt…

  7. Hi ankita… i have a request.. if u get some time then can u please do a post on Contouring & bronzing .. Difference between the both.. & products available in indian market.. & bronzers u are currently using.. Liquid bronzer, matte bronzers, shimmer bronzers, cream bronzer sticks… i also want to know that whether the Balm cosmetics ship to india or not.. from where you bought ur the Balm cosmetics products..

  8. Hi Ankita,

Found your blog while searching for bronzers for Indian skintone. I fit into the NC 42+ category and after loads of search on Google I shortlisted 3 bronzers:

    1. Bahama Mama
    2. Physicians Formula
    3. Guerlain Terracotta

And lo and behold, you have reviewed and loved all three of them on your blog!

I want to know which one was your favorite out of the three? I usually wear NARS blushes and foundation daily and want something that will just give that beautiful sun kissed glow without making me look orange or muddy.

I live in Australia so accessibility to these products isn’t a problem at all.

Look forward to your reply 🙂

    1. Hi Divya, Bahama Mama is quite matte so wouldn’t recommend that. The Guerlain one is pretty but I’m not sure how well it would show on NC42+ skin. I think you should give the Physicians Formula a try, their bronzers are lovely and give the kind of glow you’re looking for! Hope this helps.
