Today I have a very special experience to share with all of you! Yesterday I spent a day with the lovely ladies at Shiseido Headquarters in Tokyo discovering the House of Shiseido and experiencing one of their brands – Za (pronounced zee-ei) which launched in India earlier this month. The product portfolio of Za consists of makeup and skincare. The skin care range Pure White (radiance range) and Perfect Solution (youth retention range) are now available in India along with their 2-way foundation. The makeup range of Za will be also be launched in India later. Here are some pics from my day –
Za’s complete skincare range is the result of cutting-edge Japanese technology, including the ground-breaking 4MSK, Prism Enhancer and Triangle Technology, all continuously developed and researched by leading Skin Scientists.
Also at the core of Za’s skincare formulae is nature, with high-performance ingredients such as natural spring water, extracts from yuzu and apricot seeds, white lily, vitamin C derivatives and marine collagen. These key ingredients and Japanese breakthrough technology have provided the winning combination that has made Za’s Skin Expertise trusted by millions of metropolitan woman around the world.
With Revolutionary 4MSK + Vitamin C and SPA Ingredients, this advanced whitening range gives true Luminosity and Radiance that shines from within. The range consists of 6 products : Cleansing Foam, Toner, Emulsion (for normal-oily skin), Day Cream (for normal-dry skin), Day Protector and Night Cream.
With Breakthrough Intensive Triangle Technology, this advanced youth retention line targets early signs of ageing and prevents them from recurring. The range consists of 4 products : Cleansing Foam, Toner, Moisturizer, Restoring Collagen Cream. An interesting fact for you – the Restoring Collagen Cream contains 7 Trillion Collagen capsules (!!) in a water hold gel which permeate deep into the skin to make wrinkles and lines less visible and the skin more supple.
The 2-way powder foundation, as the name suggests can be used in wet or dry state. I have never had success with these kind of products before but the expert at Shiseido demonstrated how to use this with a moistened sponge and it seemed to apply really smoothly with no patchiness, the end result was good coverage with a natural matte finish! I can’t wait to try this product! The best news though is that it contains the same ingredients used in their skincare so it has brightening benefits. And like with all the Japanese brands, the pan and the casing is sold separately so you can refill the pan once you run out!
I got a chance to get a feel of all the products and I really liked the texture of all the cream products. I have been using a sample of the Pure White Day cream and its really moisturizing while being light-weight and non-greasy. I will be reviewing the Day Cream and the Day Protector from the Pure White range soon! Za is already available in NewU stores and new counters will be opening in Shoppers Stop in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore soon!
Shiseido – The Ginza
After my session with Za, I got a chance to get a guided tour of the Shiseido Building in Ginza (which is like the 5th Avenue of Tokyo and the site of the first ever Shiseido store!) that contains a Store styled along the lines of a French marketplace on one floor, a salon on the second (where you can get makeovers, hair styling and photo sessions done!) and a luxurious Cle de Peau (the most premium brand in the Shiseido lineup) Salon on the third! The ground floor store had all the Shiseido brands under one roof – Majolica Majorca, Aqualabel, Maquillage, Shiseido (the global brand), Cle de Peau among many others. They also had some vintage Shiseido products which are still selling today!
The Store had these small rooms that were designed based on the aesthetics of individual brands – the Majolica Majorca room was so cute (or kawaii as they say here!) with its vintage, princess-y whimsical decor!
A little peek into the Cle de Peau Beaute floor which was so luxurious looking – nearly all black with Swarovski studded interior! The skin analysis and consultations that you can get here are really amazing – they’ve really put a lot of science and technology into it! Their analysis can show what kind of skin issues you could face in the future – based on your current state of skin and can recommend products to prevent that. Did you know that Cle de Peau has had skincare products that was sold for 1 million Japanese Yen (about 6 Lakhs in INR!)?
Our last stop on the tour was the Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Center which is part of the company’s CSR initiatives. This place specializes in makeup for people with scars, bruises, burns, severe pigmentation and other serious skin issues resulting from chemotherapy etc. A special range of Shiseido products called Perfect Cover are used here to provide free consultations to people with the aforementioned skin issues. Visiting this place and hearing the stories of the people who’ve benefited from this service was a very enriching experience.
I had a lovely experience discovering some of the history and the many facets of the House of Shiseido. Its only when I came to Japan that I’ve realized how big and iconic this brand is! As one of the oldest beauty brands in the world (its 142 years old!), it has such a rich heritage and has evolved so much with the changing times. And with the establishment of Shiseido India Pvt. Ltd., the Indian women will also get a chance to experience the many brands of Shiseido starting with Za!
I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience at Shiseido Japan! Here are some pics of me trying out the “Magic Mirror” at Shiseido – a real time makeover tool where you can instantly see how a product will look on you in your reflection!
