Best of 2014 : Eye Makeup

Hey everyone!

I discovered quite a few new beauty products especially makeup in 2014 and I decided to do a Best of 2014 series where I talk about the best bits of the year gone by. I’ve broken them down into several posts by category so that its easier to read, a single post would be just too long! First up in this series – Best Eye Makeup products for me in 2014. Please note that all of these weren’t new launches in 2014, they were just new to me. Hope you enjoy this series!

I have only a few products in the Eye makeup category and each of these have been reviewed. (Just click on the title of the product to read the full review). I picked these not because they were great products but because I used them extensively as well!

1. Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Eyeshadow Palette

I tried out several palettes in 2014 including loads of Sleek ones and while I liked many of them, the Coastal Scents Revealed 2 palette is the one I keep coming back to! The quality of the shadows is great and you can create endless looks with the 20 shadows in this palette. Priced quite affordable as well if you compare these to the Urban Decay Naked palettes or the several other nude palettes that came out in 2014 like the Lorac palettes, Smashbox, Kat Von D palettes etc. Highly recommended!

2. Colorbar Just Smoky Kajal

The kajal has a super smooth texture, rich dark black color and good staying power – everything you would want from your kajal. The smudger at the end is great for a quick smoky eye as well. I have the black one and I really like it!

3. Stila Smudge Crayon Eyeshadow/Liner (Umber)

I discovered this pretty late in 2014 but its been an instant favorite that I have been using a lot! The liner/shadow hybrid has a creamy texture, can be smudged easily, works great as shadow or liner and doesn’t smudge! Umber is a plummy brown shade that I absolutely LOVE!

4. Shiseido Eyebrow Styling Compact (Medium Brown)

A sleek brow kit comprising of 2 shades of brown brow powders. I have used this a LOT in last year, almost exclusively! The darker color from the duo works perfectly for me and the sheer powder is just perfect to achieve the natural, fuller look.

  1. lakme eyeconic kajal in black…. brown is also good bt it didn’t work 4 me , i don’t knw y it irritated my eyes… I liked lakme forever silk lie i the shade earth line too…. 🙂

  2. I would like to add the Makeup revolution Iconic eyeshadow palettes as well..they are very good for the price. And the colossal turquoise kohl, is a fun colour to add in the kit.

I am totally drooling over the Revealed palette now!

  3. Ankita,

I would like to buy a matte blackest black eye shadow. I plan to use it for stage performances, so the pigmentation is really important. What would you suggest? I am open to both drugstore and high-end brands, my only concern is availability. Thanks in advance!!

    1. Hi, I'd suggest using a black cream eye shadow like Shiseido Shimmering Cream eye color in Caviar as base and any black powder eye shadow – Deborah Milani and NYX both have singles. Many of the Sleek eye shadow palettes also contain a black shade. The key here is the Shiseido cream shadow which is really rich and black, any average black shadow on top of it will look dark. MAC has the eye shadow called Carbon which isn't super pigmented but if are unable to find the others, its an option.

      1. Thanks a lot Ankita! Search begins now for Shiseido Caviar. I have Mac Carbon, and as you said, it’s pigmentation is not enough for what I am looking at. 🙂

  4. I kinda went crazy on maybelline and hauled most of their eye makeup range – Gel liner, kajal, hyperglossy liquid liner, mascara :P. Definitely loving the coastal scents palletes too
