Hi everyone! Recently someone asked me on YouTube about the kind of base I wear for regular outings, meetings etc. and today I’m answering just that question in this post. The Mumbai weather is really not kind to makeup wearers, especially those with oilier skin types and I’ve always struggled with finding the perfect product that would give me light to medium coverage with a long-stay, non-oxidising finish. I am a little partial to high end products when it comes to base makeup, simply because I get better shade options in higher end brands and in most cases, the formula is a little superior as well.
In the past, I’ve loved using the following bases for regular wear – NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Clinique Age Defence BB Cream, The Body Shop Cushion Foundation (yet to launch in India) and the LA Girl Pro BB Cream. My latest love though is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup. The name is a mouthful but to put it simply, its a light-medium coverage, hydrating, long lasting foundation. And it comes in a unique twist-up packaging with a sponge at the tip for buffing and blending the foundation. The sponge tip has a tiny well in the centre so when you twist the base, a bit of liquid foundation appears through the well. You can then dab it directly on the skin and use circular buffing motions or light swiping motions to blend it into the skin. The cushion (sponge tip) has a slight stiffness to it and its not super absorbent so it doesn’t drink up your foundation. It does a really good job of blending so you don’t need to go back in with your fingers or another tool to get a seamless finish. In terms of packaging, this is very unique and truly easy-to-use.
In terms of formula, this is quite different from the classic Double Wear liquid foundation. Its much lighter in coverage and gives a very natural look. Also, the formula feels very moisturizing, without being greasy, and it works really well for my combination, slightly dehydrated winter skin. It isn’t particularly dewy but does give a healthy, radiant look to the skin. It evens out my redness and slight acne spots very well and the overall result is very natural. The product has a mild, pleasant fragrance which I like.
So far is sounds really good but the real test for me was the wear time. Once you step out of the house, it doesn’t take long for foundations to start melting down a bit or turning darker/orange due to oxidation but this lives up to its 8-hour claim very well! I’ve come back home after a long day of events, meetings etc. and my face still looks pretty good after 10 hours, with just some fading around the nose and mouth area. I generally dab my T-zone area with a tissue every 3-4 hours to take care of excess shine and I have to do that with this foundation as well as it doesn’t have a mattifying formula.
I wear the shade 4N1 Shell Beige which matches me quite well. In the classic DW range, I wear 3W2 Cashew which is a little darker and much warmer. Shell Beige is not as warm but doesn’t look ashy on my skin and works very well with my complexion. They have a total of 18 shades so everyone is bound to find a shade match! Overall, I absolutely love this for when I’m looking for a light coverage base. It feels hydrating but doesn’t make my skin greasy. The wear is flawless and I don’t have to worry about my face looking dull or un-presentable after a few hours as it holds up very well, even in humid conditions. The unique cushion stick formula makes it very easy and quick to use and the cushion tip can be removed and washed to prevent bacteria buildup. I can simply find no faults with this and if you’re looking for something light-weight, natural and long lasting, do check out the new Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup.
