Spring/Summer Look#2 : Turquoise blue and forest green eye makeup for day/evening

Hi everyone!

This is look #2 of my Spring/Summer Look Book.  Look #1 was Everyday makeup using colored liners.

Blue and green and my favorite shades for bright spring/summer eye makeup. For this look, I have paired a very popular color this season- turquoise blue, with forest green for the eyes with nude lips for the daytime and plum lips for the evening.

On a well moisturized face, apply foundation ,set it with compact and apply bronzer on cheeks. For the eyes, pair a turquoise blue eyeshadow with dark green( outer half of lid) and pair this with nude lips for the daytime and glam it up with plum lips for the evening.

I have kept the turquoise shade intense only on the inner half of lid and blended it out with dark green to keep the look subtle and wearable.

Spring/Summer Look #1 Quick everyday look with colored liners

Hi everyone!

I am compiling a Spring/Summer Look Book featuring a series of looks and tutorials for this season. These will be my  interpretations of the Spring/Summer 2011 makeup trends and will be covering looks suited for different occasions – from light daytime looks to evening party looks.

Inspired by the colorful trends this season, I have already done looks with

  • NATURAL EVERYDAY Beauty look

These will be added to my Spring/Summer 2011 Look Book along with other looks that I will be doing in the coming days.

Hope you enjoy reading 🙂

The #1 look is a super quick everyday look which is pretty much everyone’s on-the-go makeup but with the added pop of a brightly colored liner. This season is all about bright colors- orange, fuchsia, turquoise, lime green and the list goes on. While black and brown are great colors for everyday lining of the eyes, they look very ‘regular‘. Adding a brightly colored liner instantly glams up your whole look without much of an effort.

Colors to look out for are brighter shades of blue ,green & purple.

On a well moisturized face, apply tinted moisturizer or light foundation, line upper lash line with black/brown pencil liner and apply a bright colored liner(turquoise, ice blue, parrot green, teal, purple,  silver/gold)  on the lower lash line ( or alternatively, bright liner on upper lash and kajal on lower lash line) and finish off the look with a little bronzer/blush and tinted lip balm/gloss.

Orange lipstick : REVLON 'Misty Rust' swatches, FOTD and NOTD

Spring is almost here and as predicted by many beauty and fashion bloggers, ORANGE is going to be the hot color this season.

While most people would cringe at the thought of orange lipstick or orange eye shadow, it is actually one of the colors that can instantly brighten up your face especially when worn on the lips. A bright fluorescent orange may not suit a lot of skin tones but there are a lot of other variations of orange which are universally flattering- burnt rusty orange, brownish orange, bronzy orange etc.

This is my take on how to sport the orange lips look.

On a well moisturized face, apply light/medium coverage foundation,  golden/light brown subtle eyeshadow(optional) with brown/black liner, a little brownish blush in the hollow of the cheeks with bronzer on the apples of the cheeks and lastly, the orange lipstick.

I’ve paired this makeup with a simple white shirt and minimal accessories. Whenever is doubt about what clothes to pair with bright/eye catching makeup, always go for white, black, beige i.e neutral colors and keep the accessories minimal. Let the makeup be the star of the show!

Revlon 'misty rust' - Orange lipstick FOTD

This looks is best suited for the day time though it can be jazzed up for the evening by adding a little more gold to the eyes. The lipstick I have applied is a matte shade ‘033 Misty Rust‘ from REVLON matte lipstick range.  Another shade worth having is ‘Sienna‘ from Revlon Colorburst range. Its not a true orange but a  beautiful brown-red-orange which would be very flattering on all skin tones.

5. Maybelline Colossal Volume mascara

Steps :

1. Apply golden pencil on eye lids and smudge all over till the crease, apply golden on inner corners of eyes too.

2.Apply a subtle  highlight shade under the brow bone (can also use compact powder here and skin highlighter)

3. Next, apply lots of kajal on the waterline and smudge it a little on the lower lash line.

4. Apply brown/black liner on upper lash line. If using brown in pencil form, apply on lower lash line also.

5. Finish off with a coat of mascara.

Lotus Herbals COLOR DEW nail enamel 'Orange Alert'

Keeping up with the orange fever, this is ‘Orange Alert’ from Lotus herbals COLOR DEW nail enamel. The quality of the nail paint is excellent though the color is not that interesting- its neither completely bright (fluorescent) nor completely burnt and rusty, its somewhere in between. A more apt description would be hanuman ji-teeka orange 😛

Since this is the only orange in this range I would have preferred a more burnt rusty orange shade (like the lipstick).

Have you tried orange lipstick? What eye makeup do you like pairing it with? Let me know your comments by replying below.

Top 10 Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Makeup Trends

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on my blog. Hope you enjoy!

Makeup trends this fall/winter offer a lot of variety whether it be sultry smokey eyes or vibrant lipcolors to create  unique compelling  looks meant to bring forth your femininity . While smokey eyes and the classic red lips are always in vogue, fall colors and neutral makeup paired with flawless polished skin were a rage on the runway this fall, winter.  Even though the holiday season is almost over we still have 2 months of winter to play around with a variety of looks before the spring summer collection brings us some more colorful trends to experiment with.

Here are the top 10 trends this season picked up from the fall winter 2010-2011 shows.

Neutral or nude or natural makeup can never go out of fashion. Some makeup artists say that the natural look is the hardest to achieve! While the natural look looks best in the day it could be paired up with a brighter pink or light red lipstick for an evening look.

Seen where : Burberry Prorsum, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Rag&Bone, Prada and Nina Ricci.

Whether it be orange reds or deep plums, bold lips are a hot trend this fall/winter.  Colors to go for this season are orange red, classic red, deep red, plums, berry shades, burgundy, chocolate shades, blackcurrant and purple shades for those who can pull it off. Regardless of your skin tone, there is at least 1 shade of red that will suit you.  Clear matte skin and minimal eye makeup go best with bold lips though it can also be paired with a smokey eye for special occasions.

Seen where : Karl Lagerfeld, Givenchy ,Dolce&Gabbana, Gianfranco Ferre, and Dsquared2.

While black, grey and blue are the colors of the season for smokey eyes, purple was also spotted at Diane von Furstenberg. Smokey  eyes instantly attract attention towards the eyes hence the lips and cheeks should be kept nude to balance the whole look. However, it can also be worn with a bold lipcolor for a special occasion.

Seen where:  Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lacoste, Lanvin , Diane von Furstenberg, L.A.M.B, Derek Lam , Jill Stuart.

Fuchsia was the key color spotted at Yves Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2010-2011 show.  Fuchsia eyeshadow was swept right above the crease paired with matte lips in muted fuchsia and a flawless face.

Variants of orange and coral were used to create vibrant eye looks and autumnal, earthy shades to create soft smoked looks with grey/blue on the lower lash line. Corals and oranges were paired with similar lip colors.

Metallic colors in golden, silver and bronze are everywhere right from shoes, handbags and accessories to eye makeup.  However, they appear in a muted subtle avatar this season . They can be used all over lid or only on the inner corners of the eyes. But Must be worn with a nude lipcolor or ‘barely there’ gloss for balancing the look.

Thick dark well defined eyebrows have made a comeback this fall/winter. They go best with natural makeup or neutral eyes with bold lips. Eyebrow pencil or eyeshadow can be used to fill in the brows followed by combing carefully and setting with a little gel to achieve this look.

Seen where: Prada, Narciso Rodriguez, and Alberta Ferretti

The emphasis is more on eyeliner than eyeshadow as spotted at Chanel and Jeremy Scott and though it certainly catches attention on the runway, it needs to be toned down for a more wearable look.

This is one of the hottest trends this season with L’oreal coming up with its new L’oreal color riche intense sets of coordinating lip and nail colors in a variety of reds, berry shades, plums and browns.

Flawless polished looking skin is the trend this season.  Minimal foundation and concealer to avoid the cakey look, with a hint of peachy pink on the  cheeks to give the natural flushed look. Whether it be bold lips, smokey eyes or neutral look, glowing natural looking skin is the way to go this season.

Hair is sleek and smooth with more often than not, tied back or up. Waves ,curls and messy hairdos are out replaced by silky and straight hair.
