Hair Removal from the Stone Age to the Space Age

 

There are some givens when it comes to women’s fashions; the little black dress works on all occasions and visible hair doesn’t work on any.  It’s not clear how far back the history of the little black dress stretches, although it must surely have happened shortly after the death of the first little black antelope.  However, the rules about female body hair seem to stretch into the mists of time further than just about every other social rule.  Worse still, it’s still going. 

Ancient Babylonian women effectively sandpapered themselves, (you thought shaving was painful!) although the fashion died out fairly quickly.  Throughout the rest of history to date we’ve found numerous entertaining and occasionally lethal ways to remove unwanted hair, so what are the choices we’re left with after all those years of human development?
